Designed and Handcrafted by Nick Mayer

I have been making and shooting wooden self bows for the past ten years. I do not yet consider myself a master bowyer. However, through years of trial and error I have developed confidence in carving bows that have excellent cast and will not break when handled properly.

Extreme care is taken to follow the natural curvature and growth rings within the wood, thus each bow is unique and has its own character. These are functional works of art.

Humans have been making wooden bows for at least 50,000 years and although my bows are not historical replicas, they could be described by the Neolithic European or Eastern Woodland design.

Bows

Bows are 66 inches long with flat limbs averaging 2 inches in width tapering gradually to the nocks. I cannot create bows with draw lengths and weights to exact fractions of inches and pounds because I am creating bows with a draw knife out of pieces of wood. Each stave has its own characteristics. If you have a desired draw weight between 30 and 65 pounds and a draw length in the vicinity of 28 inches, I can create a bow for your draw that is roughly within a couple of pounds of your request. Bows include bowstring, fur silencer, and a cloth bowsock.

Arrows
My arrows are designed with a straightforward utilitarian purpose-- accuracy. Shafts are made from a tapered Port Orford Cedar, stained dark for minimal visibility. I use natural wild turkey feathers for fletching. Arrows are matched in 5# spine and 10-grain weight to fit your bow and can be cut to your draw length.

Quivers
Tanned cowhide quivers are made completely by hand with an awl/ hand-stitcher and heavy waxed twine. I can make a quiver custom to your chest and arrow measurements. The pictured quiver has buttons made from coyote canines.
