In the summer of 2001, Kyle Desjardin and I worked together to paint a 15'’ x 40' outdoor mural of an underwater scene of Lake Champlain in the city of Vergennes, Vermont.
The project was funded by matching grants from The Vermont Arts Council and People of Addison County Together. My goal was to create a beautiful image out of a concrete wall eyesore, thereby increasing the aesthetic quality of life for the Vergennes community and stimulating an interest in art and nature.
The worksite became a very interactive place. Some people stopped to learn more about the species of fish or the shipwreck we included in the mural, while others stopped just to observe the transformation of the wall into a lake. Overall the project was a huge success and was very well received by the community.
